Tongue & Groove Ceilings, Walls and Vaults

T&G installed with a consistent layout, tight reveals and clean transitions where the run meets beams, walls and changes of plane.

Tongue & Groove project by Blue Ridge Carpenters in western North Carolina

The layout decides the result before the first board

A T&G ceiling is a long series of parallel lines. If the first board isn't set right, the error grows across the room and shows up as a tapered board at the far wall.

Vaults, dormers and beam intersections are where T&G gets difficult — every change of plane needs a transition that keeps the reveal reading consistent.

How we approach it

Material is acclimated before install so seasonal movement does not open the seams, and layout is planned so the last board is never a sliver.

We combine T&G with beams, coffers and trim so the whole ceiling package is detailed together.

What we do

  • Ceilings, vaults and cathedral installs
  • Accent and feature walls
  • Porch and exterior ceilings
  • Nickel gap, V-groove and shiplap profiles
  • Pine, cedar, poplar and reclaimed stock
  • Prefinish and site-finish coordination

Why Blue Ridge Carpenters for this work

Precision as the standard

Layout is set on site from real measurements, and joints, reveals and lines are held consistent from the first piece to the last.

Comfortable with complex work

Curves, odd angles, out-of-square walls and one-off details are normal work for us rather than a reason to simplify the design.

Quality control before we leave

We walk the finished work with you, correct anything that isn't right and leave the space clean.

Common questions

Can T&G go on walls as well as ceilings?

Yes — ceilings, vaults, feature walls and porch soffits.

Do you install pre-finished material?

We install both pre-finished and unfinished material and coordinate with the finisher when the boards are finished on site.

Do you work with homeowners, builders and design professionals on tongue and groove?

Yes. We work directly with homeowners and also as a finish carpentry partner for builders, general contractors, architects and interior designers.

Can you work from drawings or a design we already have?

Yes. If you already have plans, elevations or reference images, we build to them and flag anything that won't work against the real conditions on site.
