CUSTOM SHELVING · ASHEVILLE, NC

Shelving That Holds a Line

Floating shelves, open shelving and display systems in solid hardwood, laid out so spacing, thickness and returns stay consistent across the wall.

Custom Shelving project by Blue Ridge Carpenters in western North Carolina

Open shelving has nowhere to hide

With no doors and no face frame, everything is visible: the level of each shelf, the reveal at the wall, the way the ends are returned and how the grain runs across a run.

Floating shelves also have to be supported properly inside the wall, which has to be resolved before the finish surface goes on.

How we approach it

Floating shelves are blocked into the framing where possible and supported with steel hardware where the span calls for it, so shelves stay flat.

Edges, returns and end grain are detailed to match the surrounding millwork.

What we do

  • Floating hardwood shelves with concealed supports
  • Open kitchen and bar shelving
  • Display and collection shelving
  • Integrated LED lighting channels
  • Live edge and slab shelving
  • Matching stain and finish to adjacent millwork

Common questions

How thick can floating shelves be?

That depends on the span and what the wall can support. We look at both on site before committing to a thickness.

Can shelving be added to an existing room without a remodel?

Often, yes. We open only what's needed for the supports and repair the surface around it.

Do you work with homeowners, builders and design professionals on custom shelving?

Yes. We work directly with homeowners and also as a finish carpentry partner for builders, general contractors, architects and interior designers.

Can you work from drawings or a design we already have?

Yes. If you already have plans, elevations or reference images, we build to them and flag anything that won't work against the real conditions on site.
