Stone Fireplace with Flanking Built-Ins
Western North Carolina

The cabinetry was built to the opening on each side of the stone, with scribes taking up the irregularity of the masonry.
Shelving is solid hardwood with integrated lighting run before the faces were installed.
The finished wall reads as a single piece of millwork wrapping the fireplace.

Details worth looking at
Scribed to the stone
The woodwork is fitted against irregular stone, so the built-ins land level while following the masonry line.
Symmetry across the wall
Flanking cases are proportioned so both sides of the fireplace read equal from the room.
Shelving in proportion
Shelf spacing and thickness are set against the height of the surround rather than a standard dimension.
